Mezcal

Technically, all tequilas are actually mezcals-- don't worry, this will make sense in a second. By law, the tequila may only be produced from one type of agave, blue agave. Mezcal, however, can be produced from more than thirty different types of agave, one of which is blue agave. mezcal is stronger than tequila. Both drinks have a high alcohol content, with an average of 40% ABV, but mezcal has a higher alcohol concentration – 55% ABV, 15% stronger than regular tequila.

Mezcal, sometimes spelled mescal,  The word mezcal comes from Nahuatl mexcalli  which means "oven-cooked agave", from met and ixcalli  Traditionally the word "mezcal" has been used generally in Mexico for all agave spirits and it continues to be used for many agave spirits whether these spirits have been legally certified as "mezcal" or not. Both mezcal and Tequila are made from agave, so what's the difference between them? Basically, Tequila is a type of mezcal. While mezcal can be produced from up to 50 species of the agave plant, Tequila can be made from just one: agave tequila Weber, or Weber blue agave.
